6/14/17: Barcelona day 1
How do you get from Shepherdstown to Barcelona?
1. Ask your friendly neighbor (thanks, Kim!) to wake up at 5:45 to drive you to catch the train.
2. Take the MARC train from West Virginia to D.C.
3. Take the metro to Bethesda
4. Ride the Vamoose bus to New York
5. Stop in to see an old friend (Hi, Ryan!)
6. Take the "A" Train to the AirTrain
7. Take the AirTrain to JFK (not pictured).
8. Fly Delta to Barcelona (not pictured)
Whew! What a trip! We were exhausted when we arrived at our hostel, so we took a nap before exploring the city. We began with the terrace of our building:
Then we took Rick Steves's "Ramblas Ramble," a busy street filled with vendors and food markets that runs from one of the oldest squares in Barcelona down to the waterfront:
Along the way we saw two things of picture interest, a portion of an ancient Roman-style road preserved for posterity, and the monument to Columbus.
At the waterfront we found a yacht so big it needed its own helicopter, and a bird that might be a parakeet.
We're exhausted from a long day of travel and orientation, and we're looking forward to a trip to the Picasso museum and an orchestra concert tomorrow!
So fun! Thanks for taking "us" along with you on this glorious adventure! - EKG
